People spend about 75 percent of their adult wake time doing work-related activities- getting ready for work, travelling to work, working, contemplating work, and decompressing after work.
" THANK GOD IT's FRIDAY " is still a way of life for many people.
FISH is a book that can provide a solution.
This is a story of Mary Jane, who adopts a techinque that she learned from a fish market, and implements on her team which was earlier named “toxic energy dump” by other teams for its unenthusiastic, irresponsible behavior in the company; and transformed it into a fun-filled and lively one.
As new manager, Mary is faced with the job of turning this chronically unhelpful and unenthusiastic department into a team.
With the help of Lonnie from the Pike Place Fish Market and his approach of "work made fun gets done" (When “work” is fun – more “work” gets done) she realises that she and her team can choose their attitude to work.
There are 4 components to Fish philosophy and Choosing Your Attitude is only the first. For the other 3 you’ll have to read the book. As Lonnie explains to Mary, “find a way for your staff to discover the Fish Philosophy for themselves”.
It is a must-read to rejuvenate all those tiresome souls at work. Relish ‘FISH’!

Few lines which I really liked...
* There is always a choice about the way you do your work, even if there is not a choice about the work itself.
* "Likewise, my buddies and I realized that each day when we come to the fish market we bring an attitude. We can bring a moody attitude and have a depressing day. We can bring a grounchy attitude and irritate our coworkers and customers.Or we can bring a sunny, playful, cheerful attitude and have a great day.We can choose the kind of day we will have. We spent a lot of time talking about this choice, and we realized that as long as we are going to be at work, we might as well have the best day we can have."
* A day spent 'being world famous is a lot more enjoyable than a day spent being ordinary.
* "I've become a believer. A person can choose their attitude. I know that because I chose mine."
* The needs of the organization and our needs as workers are the same. Creativity, passion, flexibilty, wholeheartedness...
* "I don't believe that companies are necessarily prisons, but sometimes we make prisons of them by the way we choose to work there. I have created a prison and the walls are my own lack of faith in myself."
* The fact is thats the risk of doing nothing is probably greater than the risk of acting.
* Most of us are uncomfortable thinking of ourselves as artists...But each of us is an artist...With every choice, every day, you are creating a unique way of art. Something that only you can do...The reason you were born was to leave your own indelible mark on the world. This is your authenticity...Respect your creative urges...step out in faith...you will discover your choices are as authentic as you are. What is more, you will discover that your life is all it was meant to be: a joyous sonnet of thanksgiving.
You will find many such inspiring thoughts in this book.
